Mountain Agribusiness Private Limited (MAPL) is an innovative enterprise in Pakistan’s agri-business sector, focused on post-harvest value addition for fruits and vegetables. Based in Gilgit-Baltistan, MAPL is leading a clean energy initiative that deploys SDL-250 solar dehydration plants, passive solar greenhouses and sulphur kits to help farmers reduce waste and improve produce quality.
The project is designed to boost rural livelihoods by increasing farmer incomes, generating 20 direct and 900 indirect jobs, and supporting up to 600 businesses through backward and forward linkages. Initially, MAPL is targeting farmers in Gilgit-Baltistan—including growers of vegetables, fruits and dry fruits, as well as exporters—by offering accessible, affordable solar dehydration solutions suitable for both smallholders and large-scale producers.
Shahzad Ali, co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of MAPL, explains the company’s mission: “Mountain Agri Business Private Limited is an enterprise specialising in agri-business solutions and value-added processing. The company manufactures solar drying equipment, enabling farmers to process their fresh produce in a controlled environment.”

“Programmes like PPSE and PFAN are crucial for advancing clean energy technology in Pakistan. They bridge the gap between innovative ideas and financial resources.”
To date, MAPL has raised USD 50 million with the support of the PFAN-implemented PPSE programme and has marketed over 1,000 solar dehydration plants across various regions of Pakistan. “Working with PPSE is an enriching experience,” says Ali. “The entire team of PPSE are supportive and collaborative. They connected us with financial institutions and organisations that are financing clean energy and green businesses.”
As MAPL strengthens its presence in Gilgit-Baltistan, the company plans to scale operations to other provinces, adapting its core products to suit diverse climatic conditions. The potential for national expansion is significant, especially among food processors seeking sustainable methods to preserve produce.
Ali underscores the importance of programmes like PFAN and PPSE in accelerating innovation: “Programmes like PPSE and PFAN are crucial for advancing clean energy technology in Pakistan. They bridge the gap between innovative ideas and financial resources.”
